Consorzio Vini DOC Sicilia: dal 1° gennaio 2022 il contrassegno di Stato sulle bottiglie è realtà
Un sistema a garanzia dell’autenticità, volto alla tutela di produttori e consumatori delle bottiglie a marchio DOC: è il sistema dei contrassegni di Stato, che dal 1° gennaio 2022 accompagnano i vini Doc Sicilia e tracciano tutte le fasi di vita di ciascuna bottiglia. Un percorso avviato già da tempo dal Consorzio di tutela Vini DOC Sicilia, che già nel 2018 aveva scelto di introdurre la fascetta rilasciata dalla Zecca di Stato.
Del resto, il contrassegno di Stato, obbligatorio solo per le denominazioni DOCG (in Sicilia il Cerasuolo di Vittoria) è ormai patrimonio delle più importanti DOC italiane: adottare e apporre il sistema alfanumerico che caratterizza la fascetta significa poter avere un controllo su tutto il percorso di lavorazione dell’uva, dal vigneto alla bottiglia. La produzione in costante aumento di bottiglie a marchio DOC Sicilia vendute in Europa e nel mondo, aumenta i rischi della contraffazione e quelli di un uso improprio del nome della Denominazione nei mercati esteri.
L’iniziativa è stata fortemente voluta dal CdA del Consorzio di Tutela Vini Doc Sicilia presieduto da Antonio Rallo. «Valorizzazione, tutela e vigilanza: sono queste le parole chiave in riferimento all’attività del Consorzio vini DOC Sicilia – sottolinea il Presidente. – E proprio in merito alla vigilanza ed alla tutela, l’introduzione dal 1° gennaio 2022 delle fascette di Stato rappresenta un’importante innovazione che garantisce la tracciabilità di tutte le fasi della vita delle nostre bottiglie. Del resto, la continua crescita dei vini Doc Sicilia, venduti in Europa e nel mondo, se da un lato premia il lavoro delle aziende vitivinicole dell’isola, dall’altro impone di rafforzare la vigilanza. L’introduzione delle fascette contrasta al meglio le possibili contraffazioni e così tutela sia i consumatori che i produttori rispettosi delle regole della Doc Sicilia.»
Il nuovo sistema è gestito dall’IRVO, l’Istituto Regionale del vino e dell’olio, ente pubblico regionale con la funzione di organismo di controllo riconosciuto da Accredia (ente nazionale per l’accreditamento). «La DOC Sicilia – dichiara il direttore dell’IRVO Gaetano Aprile – rappresenta quasi l’86% del prodotto imbottigliato certificato della Sicilia e ha circa 500 imbottigliatori: questi numeri rendono l’idea di come la gestione dei contrassegni rappresenti una sfida complessa, che il nostro istituto è pronto ad affrontare. Per andare incontro alle esigenze del settore servirà non solo un numero elevato di fascette disponibili, ma bisognerà garantire anche tempi rapidi nella distribuzione».
Come funziona la fascetta
Il sistema delle fascette garantisce la completa tracciabilità di ciascuna bottiglia grazie alle misure anticontraffazione proprie dei contrassegni di Stato. Le fascette sono stampate dall’Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato utilizzando speciali filigrane e inchiostri fluorescenti, elementi visibili e invisibili che certificano l’autenticità del prodotto. Il sistema di applicazione del contrassegno in fase di chiusura delle bottiglie ne rende impossibile il riutilizzo, a massima garanzia di veridicità. Ciascun contrassegno è dotato di un’indicazione alfanumerica contenente un numero di identificazione progressivo che distingue ogni singola bottiglia immessa sul mercato. Inoltre, ogni fascetta presente sulle bottiglie può essere letta da tutti gli smartphone su cui sia stata preventivamente installata l’App Trust Your Wine, scaricabile gratuitamente dagli store iOS e Android.

A system for guaranteeing authenticity, aimed at the protection of producers and consumers of DOC-branded bottles: it is the system of government labels, which from January 1st, 2022 accompanies the DOC Sicilia wines and traces all the phases of the life of each bottle. A path that started some time ago by the Consortium for the Protection of DOC Sicilia Wines, which already in 2018 had made the decision to introduce the label issued by the Government Mint.
Moreover, the State label, which is mandatory only for DOCG denominations (in Sicily the Cerasuolo of Vittoria wine) is now the exclusive asset of the most important Italian DOCs: adopting and attaching the alphanumeric system that characterizes the band means being able to have control over the entire cycle of grape processing, from the vineyard to the bottle. The steadily increasing production of DOC Sicilia branded bottles sold in Europe and throughout the world, increases the risk of counterfeiting and the risk of improper use of the name of the Denomination on foreign markets.
The initiative was strongly supported by the Board of Directors of the Consortium for the Protection of DOC Sicilia Wines chaired by Antonio Rallo. «Enhancement, protection and supervision: these are the key words in reference to the activity of the Consosrtium of DOC Sicilia Wines – affirms the President. – And it is precisely with regard to supervision and protection that the introduction of State labels from January 1st, 2022 represents an important innovation that guarantees the traceability of all the stages of the life of our bottles. Moreover, if on the one hand, the continuous growth of the number of DOC Sicilia wines, sold in Europe and around the world rewards the work of the island’s wineries, on the other hand, it requires strengthening supervision. The introduction of the labels contrasts in the best way possible any counterfeits and thus it protects both consumers and producers who respect the rules of DOC Sicilia brands.”
The new system is managed by the Regional Institute of Wine and Oil, a regional public body with the function of control that is recognized by Accredia (the national validation agency). “DOC Sicilia – declares the director of the Regional Institute of Wine and Oil, Gaetano Aprile – represents almost 86% of the certified bottled products of Sicily and has about 500 bottlers: these numbers give an idea of how the management of labels represents a complex challenge, which our institute is ready to take on. In order to meet the needs of the sector, it will not only be neccessary to have a large number of labels available, but rapid distribution times will also have to be guaranteed”.
How the label works
The system of labels guarantees the complete traceability of each bottle thanks to the anti-counterfeiting measures of the State labels. The labels are printed by the Polygraphic Institute and Government Mint using special watermarks and fluorescent inks, visible and invisible elements that certify the authenticity of the product. The system of applying the label when sealing the bottles makes it impossible to reuse them, with the maximum guarantee of veracity. Each special mark has an alphanumeric indication containing a progressive identification number that distinguishes each single bottle placed on the market. In addition, each label on the bottles can be read by all smartphones on which the Trust Your Wine App has been previously installed, which can be downloaded for free from the iOS and Android stores.
